By the way, maybe it is just me, but I found the Honeycomb to be a painful read - it is worse than Jafsie Tells All! Adela Rogers St. John seems to have been a terrible reporter, concluding that Hauptmann was guilty simply by looking at him. The only part I liked about the book was the bits where Runyon tells her off, such as telling her "I don't see any factual basis for this" with respect to one of her articles.

I’ve come a long way on the LKC since I posted that, lol. And like I posted elsewhere, I think Anne and Elsie made up hearing the cat-noise, as I think a lot of what we know about what went on that night was made up.

The shutters at the nursery window were removed, no doubt by the cops to study. Can anyone refer me to a report of the results of this study or a post concerning this?

Hi Geld,
What a great question!
First a little background info. The NJSP found a dollop of mud on the top of one of the first floor shutters. The NJSP speculated that the mud fell from the kidnapper's shoe as he was climbing the ladder and landed on the shutter. To this day, that dollop of mud is in a box in the NJSP Museum. That is how thorough they were!
But the two shutters on the second story of the southeast window? There is absolutely no record whatsoever of what happened to them (that I have been able to find).
In Rosner's unpublished manuscript, he claimed (and I believe him) that he watched as Schwartzkopf ordered (from the nursery window) that the two shutters be removed. As this was being done, either one or both of them crashed to the ground.
That is the last that I've been able to find about the shutters.
If anyone else has more info, please let us know.

That is the last that I've been able to find about the shutters. If anyone else has more info, please let us know. You are absolutely right Wayne. There was one time when Mark had some of the remaining crates opened up - at the time having no idea what was in them. It was so long ago I can hardly remember but I think he was hoping the chisel and/or shutters would be inside one of them. As I recall Hauptmann's shoes, and a ton of wood from Samuelsohn's shop was among the items found in them. Unfortunately no chisel and no shutters.

Michael, you're right... it's amazing what was kept and what was lost. How do two shutters disappear? And according to Rosner they were going to Kelly to be be checked for fingerprints. However, nowhere that I've seen is there a Kelly report on the shutters except for what he reported on the night of the kidnapping. By the way, here is the Rosner info, it's on page 30 of his unpublished manuscript. For all of Rosner's gangster-related faults, I feel that he came into the case with a driven desire to help solve the thing!

Well an animal won't drag the bag but it might drag the child, as happened to the woman whose baby was eaten by a dingo. It sounds to me like the body was dumped out after the ransom was paid, then the animals started to get at it but did not have long at it before someone found it. So in that case some partial mutilation makes sense. It's also less likely that animals would make a serious attempt to eat it if the body has been dead for some time already.

Amy35 provided this timeline back in 2016:
February 27, Saturday - The Lindberghs (Charles, Anne, Charlie) are at the Englewood house. In the afternoon they get ready to go to Hopewell, NJ. When it is time to leave, Anne, Charlie and Miss Root who is Anne's weekend childcare helper (Miss Root is also the step-daughter of Henry Breckinridge) are driven by the Morrow's second Chauffeur Henry Ellerson to the Hopewell house. Charles Lindbergh leaves Englewood and goes to pick up Henry and Aida Breckinridge who will be house guests that weekend. Anne and Charlie arrive at the Hopewell house around 5 p.m. Charles Lindbergh and the Breckinridges arrive later.
February 28, Sunday - The Breckinridges along with Aida's children Alva Root and Oren Root Jr.(a student at Princeton University), are there with the Lindberghs until Sunday evening. Lindbergh takes Henry, Aida and Alva to Princeton Junction so they can return to New York. Oren returns to Princeton University.
At what point on Sunday do you suggest that CALjr died... before or after the Breckenridge's left?
I have always found the timing of the Breckenridge visit that weekend suspect. Why stay at an unfinished house in the middle of nowhere on a stormy weekend with a host who has a sick child... and bring your kids along too?
