Hey. Not sure where else to post this. But has any members of the group ever met to share ideas? I always thought something like that would be interesting. Or am I an idiot and missed that there was a chat link here?

I've met with several people and they've met with others as well. It's always a great idea for face to face meetings to discuss the case (and fun too). I think who attends the meetings has to do with proximity mostly. I was lucky enough to meet up with Rick once after he flew in from Wisconsin, and in 7 years have only met Rab on (3) occasions since he is all the way across the pond in the UK.
I thought about placing a "shoutbox" on the site but found that it would slow it down considerably. If anyone wants to start a chat room I will most definitely link it up...

I'm still relatively new here, how often do 'events' happen that are related to the LKC?

There's an annual tour of the Bronx usually in April (I think) and there's an annual trial reenactment at the Flemington Court House every October.

Someone recently posted info that they believe a tour is conducted in the Bronx relating to the kidnapping. I conduct that tour every year, and would like everyone to know that the next one is slated for May 3rd, 2008. I must have paid-in-advance reservations by April 10th, which is getting pretty close now. I still have 4 or 5 seats left. It's on a chartered bus that seats 23, has air conditioning and a bathroom, as well as a VCR system. The VCR enables me to show old newsreel clips of many of the sites that will be visited just before we get off the bus to see them. An added bonus of the video is my exclusive footage of the significant interiors of Hauptmann's house, taken about eight years ago, when the owner gave me permission to shoot the only video EVER taken inside! You will see the closet where the incriminating molding was found, the infamous kitchen pantry, and the original access in a closet to the attic. You will also see, from the camera's viewpoint, what it looked like as Det. Bruckman entered the house, went upstairs, and headed for the molding in the closet. (Sorry, no video of the attic; it was piled high with thijgs that made it impossible to see any of the flooring!) Sites to be seen on the 6 and a half hr. tour (all exteriors) are Woodlawn; the "shack" opposite (where box lunches you pre-selected by mail will be eaten); Nat'l Lumber store; the rear entrance to the Bronx Cuonty Courthouse; Frederikson's Bakery (you can go inside this site!); Condon's house; the spot where Cem. John hailed Joe Perrone's taxi; the hotdog stand; Rosenhain's Restaurant; the Schoeffers' apt. bldg. (where Anna had to go when the cops kicked her out) and the spot where she cried while singing a lullaby to her baby for the newsreel cameras; Hauptmann's house; St. Raymond's and the greenhouse nursery; the Edwin Gould Kiddie Korner where the "Boad Nelly" note was read; and PS 12, where Condon served many years as Principal (it's around the corner from the Kiddie Korner!). Tour begins at 10:30 a.m., May 3rd, for $60. Share your views with others, meet ea. other, enjoy the gtreat comradery that takes place every year. (Believe me, I hardly make a buck on this because of the high cost of chartering the bus / the price of gas, but it's always so rewarding to me to organize this event. (There's also an attended parking garage just a block from where we start the tour, with a $5 charge for the whole day!) Thank you. I'm at emma1231@optonline.net.

Hi, Richard. I was thinking about this the other say & wondered if you had ever thought about doing this.
Have you ever thought about putting together some sort of video documentary of your tour & selling it to those who cant get back there to see it?
I know I'd pay the same for a dvd/video of this as I would pay if I actually got to go on the tour in real life. Just an idea & wanted to run it by you. Im sure there are a lot of us who would love to take your tour but for one reason or another probably will never get to. I was speculating that this way we would get to take the "tour" in a sense but that you might be able to make a profit from it too.
Anyway, just an idea!
