Here is an excerpt from a post made on a German Frank Sinatra Message Board. I found it interesting so that's the reason for putting it here:

Ganz interessant ist vielleicht auch noch diese Geschichte zu einem weiteren Vers für "Kick":
William McBrien, p. 167:
"[...] the Lindbergh kidnapping occurred after this song was written, "so Porter removed the reference to Mrs. Lindbergh and revised the lyric." According to Merman, when Cole first delivered the song to her, the famous rhyme sequence "Flying too high with some guy in the sky / Is my i-dea of nothing to do, / Yet I get a kick out of you" was not in it. "Cole substituted that from some lines about the fair Mrs. Lindbergh spending nights in the air, for reasons of taste."
"I get no kick in a plane.
I shouldn't care for those nights in the air
That the fair Mrs. Lindbergh goes through
But I get a kick out of you."
Und damit sind wir auch schon bei einem weiteren Punkt: Sinatra verändert einen wesentlichen Bestandteil des Songs! Er macht aus
"Flying too high with some guy in the sky" ein "Flying too high with some gal in the sky", natürlich weil er nicht über einen Kerl sondern über ein Mädchen singt. Aber dadurch verliert die tolle Ansammlung der ganzen "ei"-Klänge ein bisschen ihre Wirkung: "FlYYYYing too hiiiiigh with some guuuuuuy in the skyyyy / is myyyyy iiiiiidea of nothing to do"
Am Newport Jazz Festival 1965 hat er "Kick" nicht gesungen, dort hatte er lediglich "Skin" von Porter im Programm.
