Has this been brought to anyone's attention?
I found a first edition recently of John Brant and Edith Renaud's 1932 "True Story..." and was thumbing through the Jafsie chapter, and this passage stood out to me like a huge RED FLAG.
Regarding Jafsie's first meeting with Cemetery John at Woodlawn Cemetery:
"The Man appeared again. Dr. Condon suggested that they retire, for privacy, to an old deserted shack in Van Cortlandt park, some distance away. Despite the cold the two conversed for an hour and a quarter."
Now, skipping over the row between Guard Robert Riehl and Condon - as well as John's "catlike" Olympic high jump over the fence - that are omitted in this book - the notion that Jafsie and John go TOGETHER a mile away to a deserted warehouse and NOT the park bench as has been reported on so much for nearly a hundred years at this point, seems like something- no?
The famous line "would I burn if the baby was dead" strikes home a little more deeply when its two people in perhaps hushed tones far from prying eyes - as opposed to a deserted, yet, public cemetery on a cold March night.

Where are you getting "a mile away" from or a "deserted warehouse"? The shack in question was in the across the street from the cemetery in Van Cortlandt Park and was I believe basically a shed used to store athletic equipment at one point. Michael's amazing The Dark Corners has the original source material quoted for each of the participants the night in question and even has a said photo of said shack. They also didn't go into a shack

The shack in question was in the park not too far away and was I believe basically a shed used to store athletic equipment at one point. Michael's amazing The Dark Corners has the original source material quoted for each of the participants the night in question and even has a said photo of said shack. I erroneously looked at a map of the distance between van cortlandt and st raymonds (forgetting the first meeting was at woodlawn) - and warehouse simply another work for shack. I wasnt aware my verbiage was going to be under scrutiny. I simply implied that a meeting indoors flies in the face of popular wisdom of a meeting out of doors.

They had their conversation on a small bench just outside of the shack.

Best to be forewarned that pretty much all of what you post here has the potential of coming under some intense scrutiny. Really, it's not such a bad thing and all paths will eventually lead to the truth.. some just won't take as long though. In my recollection from a couple of Rich Sloan's Bronx LKC Tours, the old wooden tennis shack, which has been replaced by a brick building change facility, was about 100 yards from the northwest gates of Woodlawn Cemetery. Cemetery John was frightened by the appearance of cemetery guard Robert Riehl, hopped the wrought iron fence, landing beside John Condon and ran off into Van Cortlandt Park. Eventually CJ let up, allowing Condon to catch up to him and the two retired to the tennis shack at the latter's suggestion, where they talked on the bench for about an hour and fifteen minutes.
