According to an article from a Long Island newspaper from 1934, Hauptmann's first lawyer, James Fawcett, said that Isidor Fisch was known as John Fisch. I don't know if there is any validity to this claim. If true, Fawcett was in possession of letters from individuals who said that Isidor was, at times, called by the name of John. I wonder if these letters exist, and if they are among the James Fawcett legal material that researchers are trying to locate? "I have received a number of letters from persons who said Isidor Fisch was frequently known as John Fisch. If I can establish this fact it will be one more link to indicate that Fisch, from whom Hauptmann received the ransom money, was the kidnaper 'John' of St. Raymond's cemetery (where 'Jafsie' paid the ransom)." nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=tnd19341112-01.1.25&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN----------"World at a Glance" by Leslie Eichel The Nassau Daily Review November 12, 1934 Page 6

very interesting! i am struck by the fact that BRH preferred being called Richard, less "foreign" sounding than Bruno. maybe Fisch also preferred an American sounding name?

That is interesting about Hauptmann and Fisch may want to have used less offensive, more American-sounding names!
Also, was it Mrs. Schwarz who testified that she and her husband spent time with Fisch on the trip overseas on board the S.S. Manhattan?
Mrs. Schwarz said her husband's address book:
John Fisch Johanstrasse 45 Leipzig

I wrote about this on pages 595-6 in V2. While I cannot say this is what Fawcett was referring to in the article Sue posted, I can say that Kress was one of his investigators so it makes sense they were at least among them. Of course there could be more sources that I haven't found. Unfortunately, most of Fawcett's stuff isn't at the archives.

Is Kress the one who interviewed Mrs. Schwarz?
Did Mrs. Schwarz not want to testify? She only agreed to an interview?
