Does anyone know what Anna Hauptmann lived on after Bruno's execution? When did welfare start?
Edit: welfare started in 1935. I know Hearst paid her $25 a week through the trial and I think paid her various rents. She moved a lot. Just don't see anyone hiring her because of the notoriety.

In 1941, she worked at a bakery during the day and cleaned offices at night. According to this source she retired in her mid-seventies. This article "The Sorrows of Anna Hauptmann" has some information about Anna's life you might find interesting. One thing that caught my eye was Anna said there were letters from Fisch's relatives that supported Richard's claim that Fisch owed him money but they were hidden from Reilly. It also says that were still in the possession of the New Jersey state police in 1981. Has anyone come across them at the NJSP Archives?

I especially like anything that quotes an actual living person at the time. To answer your question - yes. They were written in German and they, along with their English translations, are there now.
