Something I stumbled on a while back that I thought was interesting. Nothing about it in the reports anywhere. Also adding a different version of one of the more popular photos of Whateley and Betty Gow:

Very interesting Michael.. I often thought to myself that didn't really look like Betty Gow with Whateley, and it also struck me as a bit odd to see them walking together. Assuming that is Betty Whatelely holding the rattle, do you know the date of the photo?

Michael, Is that definitely Oliver Whateley's niece? Could it possibly be Ollie's DAUGHTER? Could the caption have incorrect information? A poster from 2009 from another board claimed he was Ollie's grandson, that his grandmother had an out-of-wedlock baby girl with Whateley. Just asking. lindberghkidnap.proboards.com/thread/538/oliver-whateleys-daughter

I don't know the date of the photo. Someone gave me a folder of clippings and it happened to be included as I posted it. Michael, Is that definitely Oliver Whateley's niece? I do know that when Whateley's brother visited, he brought a "girl" with him who he identified as his daughter. Because of that, I just assumed the picture above is her.

Here are three photos of Betty Gow, two of them in the same outfit as she wore when walking with Ollie Whately. She wore this outfit when she first testified (not in the later trial when she had to return from Scotland. An earlier photo of Betty Gos is attached for the sake of companison.

Michael,
Maybe Reginald Whateley passed his niece off as his own daughter?
Picture section of Philadelphia Inquirer for March 8, 1932, shows the same photograph of "Miss Betty Whatley," with a caption saying she was 17 years old and lived in Detroit.

I'm amazed at how much different the above images of Betty Gow appear in comparison to the ones shown of her knitting in the Flemington courthouse. Okay, now that I look at the photo of Ollie (and Betty Gow) more closely, is that Betty Whateley, his niece, in the background behind Ollie? Or possibly Ollie's brother Reginald's daughter Sylvia, as Sue has previously proposed? Anyway, while all of this is being stewed upon, I'll just say say Hauppy Canada Day and July 4th weekend everyone!

I communicated with Siglinde and she told me that Reginald and his wife Florence had two daughters: Betty & Sylvia.

Thank you for this picture, too!
Elsie Whateley dressed dowdily, but I think she was a friendly person as this photo shows.
News accounts say Elsie was a redhead.
