Through the miracle of time travel you are transported back to Flemington , NJ , it is early February 1935, and BRH is on the witness stand.
You are granted one, and only one question.
What would that question be?

If I could bring back the dead I certainly would like to ask Condon, Gow, and I suppose Sharp the questions. Hauptmann denied everything when he was alive. I am not sure anything would change. In Hauptmann's last days many pleaded to tell anything and eveything he knew. He stuck with his story.
Hauptmann foretold one definite truth. "The case will never be closed." Seemingly this statement also convicts him. If he did not know certain details of the case how could he assume it would never be solved.

That's a good but tough question to answer within your parameters. I would ask Hauptmann to talk specifically about what he thinks is wrong with the ladder. How would he build a ladder for this purpose? My objective here would not be to gain knowledge about the ladder, but rather to pit Hauptmann against his own ego. He would have to criticize himself and I would be fascinated to see how he would handle that.

If I could ask him one question, I guess it would be how did he know the Lindberghs would be at Highfields on that particular evening, when they had yet to stay a weeknight there before.

Since the Hauptmann's Mount Vernon Trust Company Account (June 1, 1932 to August 18, 1934) had $1,309.00 worth of bills deposited during that time, and both men, (Trister & Landseadel) who handled all of these deposits told Police when interviewed that they definitely checked all deposits they handled for Lindbergh ransom money and never found any - then I would ask Hauptmann:
Who else was laundering the ransom?

Michael - do you have any thoughts on who may have been laundering money, besides the obvious candidate of Fisch? Is the Fisch story diverting our attention away from other suspects we should be looking at?

Well, I am extremely suspicious of Hans Mueller, and I think I know how it was being done although I am not ready to put that "out there" just yet.
