gary have you ever considered the Junges? they are insiders, Germans and have a geographic connection to the table. They also were Red Johnsons only alibi and he theirs. they lived in the same rooming house were johnson and ellerson resided. the note on the table says the writer was wealthy and from hamburg and this describes mr. junge

Checking about symbols I came up with two possibilities though I'm not sure how they might be connected. In eighteenth century chemistry the interlocking rings were used to symboize "sugar" and French gypsies use the interlocking symbols to indicate a house that was "safe" or "friendly" Carrel was the only French person involved here. American hobo's used this sign to mean "police treat tramps roughly here" the symbol could be perceived to represent handcuffs. I'm sure Fisch knew many bums. maybe if the symbol was usesd to exclude others from extortion the "handcuffs" were a warning to stay away. I think this symbol at least took time to crreate even if there wasn't a significant meanig

I think the look-outs were there to ascertain whether cops came along. Those were pretty miserable nights to be out for a walk not to mention late. why did cal come along the second trip unless he didn't trust condon? did he think they would turn over the baby then?

Elyssa, he died between the time the baby was found and the trial i think he bled out from a stomach ulcer. i'll try to fund the exact facts if you want. kathy

After the baby was put to bed the french window was left opened. no need really to have the shutters closed. I think it would have made an excellent signal.

i think betty's relationship with the baby is open to speculation. She was left alone with the baby for a month the summer before and used her own salary to buy him clothing, and she is the one who stitched the shirt for him that night. Ive thought how convinent that that shirt was needed to id the body. She was absolutely not allowed to be questioned by police. I feel she would have assumed that if someone took the baby for a few weeks that no one would be hurt or mind so why not? I think she could have been persuaded to help.

the last note delivered to Condon's house wasn't checked too carefully. No one could id the "driver" who delivered it.

the VDer's like to point out all the lies Hauptmann told but forget the lies told by Condon. Lindbergh knew of these but wasn't interested in pursuing this line. I can see CJ and Condon being in on this together, like the final note in the cemetary. Where did that come from?

my thoughts on condon and hauptman's meeting prior to all this is this: hauptman was steeped in German culture of that area. He and his friends spoke german with one another. Socially I don't think they would have any regard for one another. Condon was educated and lived in the ivory tower world of acedemia and hauptman was a laborer. I can't see them meeting other than very casually
