You're right Steve. That is long since gone. I don't think that was done by any "Official" but it was in the right spot when it was there.
There were original plans to erect a memorial at the location just after the child was found. (I can look up more information on this if anyone is interested....) But that never happened.
Good find Kevin! That is Brittingham's neat little book: Hopewell's 'Crime of the Century' 1932 The Lindbergh Kidnapping (2001) ISBN 0-9703345-0-8.

In my first message on August 22, I linked to a map that contained my best estimate of where the body was found, based on a map hand-drawn by a state trooper. I stated that the system gave that dot coordinates that I couldn't understand:
Easting X = 422,752 Northing Y = 562,047
Since then I have found a New Jersey conversion utility that gave the Latitude and Longitude coordinates for an NAD83 datum map. Somewhere I read that Google Earth and most Geocache enthusiasts types use NAD84, which is virtually identical to NAD83.
The conversion utility provided these coordinates which I think are more accurate than the ones in my earlier message:
40.376197 - 74.749013
But for all this precision, all it is precise about is my best-guess interpretation of the trooper's map in light of various other resources, all of which have been cited in this thread.
