Why lie if there is nothing to hide?
The earliest statements of Betty concerning what she and Ann did was, and this is paraphrasing from Mark Falzini, njspmuseum.blogspot.com/2008/02/march-1-1932-timeline.html
1. Betty ask Mrs. Lindbergh to get scissors and thread
2. Both put the baby in bed and left the nursery together.
3. Betty washes up in the bathroom
4. Checks baby, sleeping, puts pins on mattress
5. Tells Mrs. L he is sleeping
6. She goes to cellar to hang clothes (not in this statement, but in a later one)
NOTE:
Why lie about the scissors and thread? Over and Over they said Ann did this...
Two neighbors have their dogs barking at 9:00 near Lindbergh place.
Both Elsie and Betty seem to refer to Ann as "dazed" or bewildered look..(this is an agreement from the many stories of this time frame, moreso it is an agreement on emotion or mindset of Ann). Others, including Lanphier, who is telling what Mr. CAL told him, says Ann was annoyed because she thought Lindbergh had the baby and yelled at him from the top of the stairs(again he is recounting what CAL told him, this is quite different than Betty and Ann)...at different times they said she said CAL probably had him, or, He's downstairs in the library, or she doesn't know where he's at... a bewildered look, but ....
Elsie and Betty both refer to dazed and bewildered with no answer at all, just this look of bewilderment or dazed.
Another agreement is that Ann definitely retrieved the thread and scissors. Bett says it, Ann says it, both more than once.
Ann even stated it was when she took Mr. Lindbergh's phone call announcing his lateness.
Another agreement is Elsie and Ann heard a noise when Ann went to her room to dress. What noise is debateable: a cry, a cat...Elsie says cat Mrs. L. says cat...Mrs. L. also says a cry but it was windy. But Both heard something
Here are similars inside all differences:
Betty and Ann put baby to bed
Betty and Ann close all shutters but 1
Ann and Lanphier(lindbergh's story teller) say Ann sits in library in the dark for an hour, with the door closed waiting for CAL.
All know Lindbergh home because horn blow
Red Johnson calls Betty between 8:40-45
We now have 2 neighbors agreeing to dogs barking at 9:00
Ann ran bath water
Betty and Elsie agree Ann is "bewildered," or "dazed"
Ann and Elsie hear some kind of noise outside Ann's bedroom window (10:00 ish)
Betty noted that after she washed the clothes in the baby's bathroom, she went to the cellar and hung them up....hmmmm
Maybe she took something else to the cellar from the bathroom that night???
After leaving the nursery, Ann goes to the LIBRARY ALONE AND SITS IN THE DARK WITH THE DOOR CLOSED FOR AN HOUR. There is something wrong with this action, she is upset about something...she is not reading, writing, or drinking...she is alone in the dark library with the door shut...for an HOUR
Ann is in the bathroom bathing when kidnapping is discovered, yet Betty runs to her
Elsie seems to walk Ann through the motions of getting dressed after police are called (I really would not be worried about what I looked at at this time....maybe Ann was wet and had to be changed)
Ann hears something outside sounding like a cry...lifts window and strains outside her window. (Act of shock maybe) craziness
I know some of you will not like what I am getting at...but it seems the stories surrounding Ann are the stories that are in constant change...responses, whereabouts, what is said, who says it, emotional state.....
71% of children killed are killed by a parent. When mothers kill their babies, they often use drowning as the method. We all know that Ann had been taken away from that baby when he was just an infant..for months...no bonding, he bonded with Betty.
Ann was jealous of Betty and Charley.
(IF) Charley was defected...she did not want him to suffer any longer (from his defect or his father because of the defect)
Ann may have snapped, or just decided to end his suffering
Ann was overly tired due to caring for Charley's cold, having a cold herself, and being pregnant on top of all this...she felt she needed Betty to help with him
She went to that library alone, in the dark, for an hour, closed off from the rest of the house, a closed door...something was upsetting her, something was on her mind...and it happened right after the nursery visit.
Maybe there was more to the phone calls that night
Maybe Red did arrive right at 9 to pick up a package from the cellar...when the neighbors dogs were barking.
I know it sounds irrational. Ann doesn't seem like the type, it is beyond reason to think....but so was Andrea Yates and Susan Smith, both were seen as wonderful mothers who loved their children...Andrea was a nurse at one time....
Who can fathom any mother or father doing this? Noone..but it happens.
Maybe Ann got upset watching Betty and Charley together
Maybe Ann went to the library alone and thought out her plan, in the dark, for an hour before Mr. CAL got home
Maybe it was Charley Betty took to the basement
Maybe Elsie helped Ann change because she had on wet clothes
Just thinking outside the box...
