Indiana Gazette 'Violet Sharp' set to open Published: Thursday, September 25, 2008 11:50 AM EDT Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Theater and Dance presents the first fully staged production of a new play, “Violet Sharp,” written by William Cameron. Performances take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 to 4 and Oct. 8 to 11 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 on the main stage of Waller Hall
The play is based on one of America’s most notorious crimes, the 1932 Lindbergh kidnapping case. Violet Sharp, a domestic servant of Charles Lindbergh’s family, was suspected of kidnapping the famous Lindbergh baby. Having initially lied to the police as to her whereabouts on the night of the crime, Sharp tried to clear her name but only managed to strengthen the conviction that she was guilty. As the police rigorously pursued a confession, it became clear that Sharp was being hunted just as fervently by her own personal demons. online.indianagazette.com/articles/2008/09/25/features/entertainment-media-t/doc48dbb29d30c7d194850800.txt

Please let me know via e-mail (bcameron@washjeff.edu) if anyone is planning to attend the play "Violet Sharp" at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I will be attending most performances and would love to meet any fellow Lindbergh fanatics. I have seen rehearsals and IUP has put together a splendid production. Hope to see you there. -BIll Cameron, playwright www.iup.edu/page.aspx?id=48903

Violet Sharp. William Cameron’s script depicts the agonies that beset a maid (Meredith Bishop) for Charles Lindbergh’s in-laws, in the aftermath of the notorious Lindbergh baby kidnapping quality. An aggressive detective (David Hunt Stafford) considers her a prime suspect. The scenes feel like simulated re-enactments, with a docudramatic quality. As in many such stories, it isn’t easy to know how much is verified docu and how much is fabricated drama. Still, it’s an engaging demonstration of how seemingly innocent and anonymous bystanders can be drawn into the swath of a widely publicized news story. Theatre 40, 241 Moreno Dr., Beverly Hills High School campus, (310) 364-0535; theatre40.org. Check website for schedule. $10-$22. Closes Thur., March 12.
