On a lighter note...
Well, maybe, this is not so light.
According to an article on the front page of a Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin newspaper on July 14, 1960, procedures to assist in animal reproduction were taking place in the Flemington Courthouse basement at the same time that the Hauptmann trial was underway upstairs.
In 1960, Laton Henderson gave a lecture to farmers at a Kiwanis Club meeting, and the talk was reported about in this Chippewa Herald-Telegram newspaper.
Here is the excerpt concerning the artificial insemination of animals:
"These tests, incidentally, were being carried on in the basement of the same building in which the Bruno Hauptmann trial was simultaneously being conducted upstairs. "
"Red Russia is Really Red
'Russians are No Dummies'
Farmers, Kiwanians are Told"

I'm not sure if Henderson was present in the courthouse basement during these experiments in 1935, but he had a strong connection to the dairy/agriculture industry of New Jersey.
Also, I've read that adoptions of infants were taking place in another office in the Flemington Courthouse at the same time as the January/February 1935 court proceedings.
