I know I said in the past that I wasn't sure about writing another volume, but I am planning on one now. In fact, I am getting started on Chapter 1 today. However, since I am going to wait until Del Wilber's book on the subject comes out, it will probably be some time before it moves past C1 until I read it. I am also hoping Julie Means Kane's new book will be out by then as well because I expect to devote a chapter to the Means angle of the case ... but if it doesn't come out before Del's book is published I am going to have to get started without it. She has already written one, which I have, but it's the new one I am waiting on. I've done some searching and haven't found any updates except what I expect to be a possible title. Link to Del's twitter post: twitter.com/delwilber/Link to Julie's book: www.amazon.com/My-Life-Gaston-B-Means/dp/B09B1M3597My original intent was to wait before I started to write anything until after I read both because I'd hate to write about something that might already be covered, resulting in one big giant waste of time on my part. However, there's too much information (both new and old) that needs to be in the first chapter and I fear I will forget too much by then. And so off to my broken desktop and bad/good/bad eyes with the smoke from Canada making it even worse. For today's topic I plan on taking the gloves off. Should be fun.

As I continue working on V5, I wanted to open the floor to ideas about what I should include. I have until 2026 before I can publish any finished work and thought it might be a good idea to field suggestions about what topics others might want to see addressed further. Also, since I can't even afford to publish this one, there can be no doubt it will be my last so I want to feel satisfied that I covered everything of interest.

Thank you for your request, Michael, and best wishes for your research. There appear to be a couple of loose threads that may offer some possibilities, one of them is Charles Schleser and his relationship with Fisch. He once sold real estate and also drove a booze truck. He also was said to be quite the gambler. Many individuals did rum-running and also participated in the mobs' opportunities to gamble on professional ball games, including baseball (remember the fixing of the World Series in 1919) and also in boxing matches in which the mob was heavily engaged. Another possibility for further research is John Lister, the man from Maine who lost his job and became involved with Karl Henkel and BRH. He seemed to have disappeared after Hauptmann was arrested. What became of him, and how did he support himself when prohibition came to an end in Dec. of 1933? Just a couple of suggestions. Looking forward to seeing Vol. 5 in print.

Thanks for your input Hiram, I really appreciate it. Lister is going to be a hard one since my sources about him are limited. In fact, you probably know more about him than I do. As far as Schleser, I also think he is someone that is interesting. I tried to offer new information in addition to what already existed (primarily in Dr. Gardner's book). I will redouble those efforts by trying to see if there might be something I have that I didn't previously disclose.

Hello Michael.
As a serious reader of your first 4 volumes on this case, I have been looking over them and am amazed at how thoroughly you have covered the number of figures who had roles and/or were investigated during the course of this case. I am hard-pressed to come up with someone additional that you have not written about. Will keep looking just in case I find someone.
That said, I did not find any chapter about Alexis Carrel in any of your volumes. Is this because you can find no factual/investigative role linking Carrel to this kidnapping case? Lise Pearlman's book, Suspect No.1, relied heavily on the Lindbergh/Carrel relationship as her way to document Lindbergh's involvement in his son's death.
Not a big fan of Pearlman's book. Just wondering if Dr. Carrel has any relevance to this case to make him worth mentioning. I am looking forward to Volume 5 and learning new facts!

Michael, if you can find any more facts concerning Ellis Sanborn and Erna Cahn, that might shed some additional light on the role of Isidor Fisch. Erna may have been used by kidnapping rings as the woman attendant for kidnapped children for a few days until the ransom was paid. Someone indicated that she boarded a ship and visited her homeland in Germany, wherever that was, perhaps using her "income" to pay for the ticket and perhaps to avoid being questioned about the kidnapping. Sanborn reported that the Fisch's visit to Maine occurred in the summer of 1933.
Why Maine? Who was with him? There are several accounts of this, not all of them compatible.
Just as suggestion for V5. Thanks

Just wondering if Dr. Carrel has any relevance to this case to make him worth mentioning. I am looking forward to Volume 5 and learning new facts! Thanks for this. You are most definitely right, there is no chapter on Carrel. I did mention him once in V3 on page 34. Obviously, I believe Dr. Hawks was the man in the cab (Page 41). Because of this, I think Lindbergh was most likely referred to Carrel for the reason described. The problem for me is that within the hundreds of thousands of documents which concern this case that I have read thru or copied, there is next to nothing about Carrel. I do have a lot on him, and several books go into various interesting things about him as well, but it's hard for me to scratch out something in the dirt. Or rather, I don't feel comfortable doing that. What's known is known, and I really don't have anything to add outside of possibly correcting some things in other books which I have no stomach for at the moment. I've spoken with people who have been thru his material and they say there's some missing documentation, so my hope is something new turns up as things very often do. I'd love to find a police interview which concerns the kidnapping, a police report, letter, memo ... anything new along those lines. Sadly, as of right now, there's nothing like that to share or build off of - at least that I know of. Michael, if you can find any more facts concerning Ellis Sanborn and Erna Cahn, that might shed some additional light on the role of Isidor Fisch. Hopefully you downloaded what I uploaded, but if not, I think its still on the server. The only new things I ever saw were the articles Amy posted about it. If I ever happen to stumble on something new that can add to everything I will make sure to write up something on it.

Michael, would you consider a chapter, or at least part of one, which clearly lays out your theory about this case, from start to finish? I understand that your interpretation of the evidence tends to point the finger at Charles Lindbergh having been the architect of his son's kidnapping and murder. I also know that you claim many people have asked you to provide more of your personal opinions in writing. And of course, this has become increasingly evident over the course of your four books. I know we can be very tough on each other during discussions, but please don't take my question in any other form than in the true interests of an objective appreciation as to what the one person who's probably researched this case more than anyone else on this planet, really thinks.

For me, the information in the four volumes, combined with the fifth once it drops, provides all the information anyone needs to draw a conclusion. It's all there. For me to summarize it in a final chapter doesn't seem to make sense. Most of the information needs to be evaluated. Some may reject some things or embrace them. And if embraced, they may or may not think it holds the weight that I do - or not. The books were always meant to provide information most didn't know existed to combine with what they already knew did, or in some cases, call what they thought they already knew into question. I'd really hate to, in the end, "taint" it with my personal views because that's not why I wrote the books. Our discussions here are different, of course, because I am not bound by what I've attempted to do in the books. Anyway, I'll take it under advisement. I've got years to think about it so maybe I'll change my mind by then. Or maybe I'll get hit by a car or something. Who knows?

michael, i will second the suggestion of a summary chapter outlining your personal theory. i know you have always encouraged any readers of this message board and your books to look at the evidence and come to our own conclusions. also, i think i can safely say you value the lively debates that sometimes come as a result of differing opinions if you do spell out your theory in the next book, i do not think that will shut down discussion. not at all! if anything, it might spark even more. either way, thanks for all your dedication and hard work to put your research out there for anyone who is interested. whenever anyone says "which crime you would you like the know the truth behind?", the LKC is my #1 answer. (sometimes it's #2 and JFK is #1, depends on my mood )

I've said this to you personally before, but I also think a summary section would be amazing. Your books are so great at breaking down the facts and laying it all out there without directing the reader one way or the other, that I think your own "afterward," as Lloyd Gardner called his, which lays out your own theory, would be really beneficial, given that you probably know this case better than anyone.
