In Version 2 - Skeletons in the Closet (page 378) there is a quote from Yonkers Daily News that refers to Condon as an attorney. Do we know if he was a licenced attorney or was he misrepresenting himself? Great question. According to Condon, his PhD was in Pedagogy. He claimed he later took a law course at night at New York Law College but never took the examinations so never got the credit for it. He definitely wasn't a lawyer. According to what he told Special Agent Sandberg, his brother Joe and his two sons, John and Lawrence, were all lawyers. So the reason the article mentions that Condon was a lawyer could be anyone's guess. It may have come from the will or perhaps a mistake by the Reporter confusing John for Joe. It doesn't appear the Reporter writing this article spoke to Condon. If it is in the will Condon was a lawyer then Stinard may have been mistaken or Condon may have lied to him. If you have any more questions that we can help you with just ask. Also, if you have any ideas or input please feel free to jump in at any time.

Thanks Michael. It looks like this will remain a mystery. The research would be much easier if people didn't have such similar names. There are three J.F. Condon's on this list!

Names in this case can always be a problem. It doesn't apply to the Condon family (at least not that I know of) but just about everyone had an alias (or two) as well.

I'm reading Vol 1. Is Vol 2 the same book with some new info added? No. Volumes 2, 3, and 4 are all different. The exception are where, in some places, there can be "crossover" material/points/facts as well as each having the first chapter with certain corrections in addition to supplemental or new information meant to complement and/or clear up points made in the previous volumes. Much of V2 concerns Condon. Later chapters include Hauptmann, Mueller, and Fisch. Here is the TOC for V2: Acknowledgments
Introduction
1. Additions and Errata
2. The Woodlawn Experience
3. Suspicious Events and Strange Encounters
4. The Ransom Drop Ruse
5. The Skeletons In the Closet
6. Hans Mueller
7. Vacations, Finances, and Ransom Money
8. The Panel Purchase
9. The Writing On the Wall
10. Isidor Fisch
