Michael~ The New Technology/handwriting sounds like a terrific idea! I'm not knowledgeable enough on ideas of how to pursue this. Have you any additional thoughts on it? I love the forum!

I like the sound of this....
The main reason, if their claims behind the software's ability is correct, is that it can tell if someone is attempting to forge or imitate - therefore it should be able to disregard coached/tainted exemplars such as the one's Hauptmann wrote out while in Police custody.
Everyone (legitimate) who has concluded Hauptmann did write those notes used those exemplars.

there was a good program on Court TV tonite. A Romanian Nazi was recognized by some of his jewish victims in Cleveland....now a Catholic Bishop?
Obviously, The Rev says "youve got the wrong man."
But the West German government saved some postcards sent by him to friends during WWII (1940) so first the FBI compares the handwriting = "match".
But the clincher is....a 40 year olde thumb print discovered by laser technology. Non-invasive! No powder. Just the laser light sees the print.
Conclusion: Bishop is Iron Guard. Deported in 1985. dies in Spain. Check and Mate! Just think whos prints we might find in the Archives?

Good point Rick. Unfortunately discovering the prints is only half, maybe even a quarter of the battle. Identifying or matching them would be the more difficult task. Meanwhile I thought this link might be interesting and potentially helpful to anyone who may disagree with whatever handwriting results are found from this new technology. www.oldamericancentury.org/bb/lofiversion/index.php/t6136.html

I've gotten a couple of emails here and there asking when this analysis will be completed. In short I do not know. I can't help but think the amount of time involved here means the company ran into something unexpected.
This is, after all, brand new technology. I wonder if the software spits out a "range" of conclusion similar to our human counter-parts. I would expect the answer to be yes but its something to look at once the results are announced.
I've heard they too used the requests which were undeniably influenced by Police which I have always had so much trouble with. Of course the idea is a program has no bias but I wonder if the person(s) who wrote it considered whether it should recognize something like this as evasion or tampering. Perhaps they considered both or is this just wishful thinking? I mean people wrote the program so the software, in essence, does what the person told it to do.
I suppose we're just going to have to wait to find out. If it concludes Hauptmann wrote all of the notes with the same degree of probability then of course it doesn't help the proposition that someone else wrote them. On the other hand, if it says he didn't write them you won't see me shouting from the roof-tops that he didn't. I see a curve ball or two coming our way once we sit down and properly evaluate the results - if they ever come out for us to see.
The technology is too new and it could be the requests being formulated the way in which they were that could have "thrown" the software into drawing a conclusion either way.
I can't help but wonder the mixed emotions a guy like "Script" must be going through. Why you ask? Well the creation of this software could cost him a job..... But then again, with all the bloopers, blunders, and jokes I've seen come out of his posts - maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Nothing - which tells me they must have run into a problem somewhere.
