Many thanks to Mark Falzini at the NJSP Museum, for providing this composite of reports investigating the activities of Duane (Bacon) Baker relative to the LKC. My original report was highlighted and marked up pretty good so I requested this fresh copy. As the Baker Investigation was made up of numerous individual NJSP reports contributed by different investigators, it is slightly different from my original copy. There are some new handwritten entries in this report and if any pages from the original report are not here, they will get filled in over time. Ronelle has posted this report to her site as well.

This is excellent, Joe. Thanks so much to you and Mark and Ronelle for providing this report. It will take some time to go over all the material in it. It really gives us a more complete look at Duane Bacon as a person and as a possible suspect!

Investigation seems to have ended when Hauptmann was arrested? Very thorough and interesting. Thank you.

Hi Steve, I have to have another go through my FBI files, as I know there's a good section on him in there. Are you referring to the Summary Report #1 or individual agent reports? His placement at the Plymouth Apartments, background and street smarts make him a good suspect for a lot of reasons in my book.

For anyone who "trusts" Condon or puts any stock in his ability to identify suspects (despite the fact he identified many who looked nothing like each other AND failed to identify Hauptmann until the NJSP put the screws to him) - here is what he said about Baker:

baker was in a long list of suspects they cleared him that's why I moved on from him I think what's interesting is "how" any Agency "cleared" anyone. From the portion of the FBI document I posted, we can see they are using Condon's eyewitness account in an attempt to identify Baker. In other areas they also looked at the Ransom Note handwriting, then later the J. J. Faulkner Slip handwriting. And it's important to note that ALL Handwriting Experts agreed the same person did NOT write both. Next, they also used Reich, and Perrone in an attempt to identify suspects. After Hauptmann's arrest we see others brought in for this purpose as well. But save for just a few, most of us know there was more than one person involved in this crime from beginning to end. So that makes ruling someone "in" or "out" a very tricky endeavor.
