Now that the name of Robert Zorn's new suspect is out in the open, I'd like to discuss something that pertains to the new suspect's name. I'm pretty sure this is nothing new, but Zorn's Lemma (I could not resist the pun, which I hope a few people get) poses some interesting questions.
It never made sense to me why Cemetery John would use the name John in conversations with John Condon. I do understand it's a common name, and one that is basically without any ethnicity, so in that respect, it would be a good choice.
But the question is: Did Condon give CJ his name, or did CJ come up with the name himself? If Condon came up with it--which I wouldn't put past him--it makes me wonder if it might have been a Freudian slip or something psychological, as if he's dropping a clue. Who knows?
But if John Knoll were Cemetery John, then why on earth would he use his real name? Or, why would John Condon assign that name to him? Well, I can understand why Condon would. Maybe he didn't know Cemetery John's real name, and it was just a wild coincidence that he'd choose CJ's real name to use as his "pen" name.
That, of course, would add yet another wild coincidence to a case already infested with them.
But if Condon DID know Cemetery John's real name, why would he use his real name? If they were co-conspirators, wouldn't Condon be putting his confederate at incredible risk by using his real name? Or was Condon so arrogant and pompous that he felt he could, without bringing risk to CJ?
Or did law enforcement never pause to consider the possibility that it really was his name? Maybe they just didn't take anything Jafsie said seriously.
Perhaps Zorn's book will bring this subject up, but I'm betting if it does, it would be pure conjecture, unless Zorn has uncovered something truly revelatory.
