Feel free to use this section of our board to add any links you think we might find useful. You can do this by responding to this thread or starting a new one. Here is a link to my good friend Ronelle Delmont's Lindbergh Kidnapping Hoax Site: www.lindberghkidnappinghoax.com/index.htmlIf you cannot make it to one of the various Archives - her site is the next best thing. Be prepared to spend hours (if not days) there!

Here is a great site that contains a virtual photo history of the Lindbergh and Morrow families. There are no pics of the trial period but there are dozens of gems here including a few of Charlie I've never seen before.
It's a bit circuitous getting to the site and the URL would not seem to copy and paste properly.
Here's how you can get there.
Go to Google (Images) and type: dwight morrow Go to the third page and look for the early picture of Elisabeth, Anne and Dwight Jr. Click on this and it will then take you to the page where you can navigate the other 26 pages of photos.

I have always enjoyed the slang found within the letters, memos, and reports that I have discovered and read concerning the case. Admittedly, concerning some of them I had no idea what the hell they meant. Here are a couple of links that will definitely help out: Underworld Slang Slang During the Depression

Charles Lindbergh in Combat In 1944 Charles Lindbergh took part in over 50 combat missions in the South Pacific. He participated in numerous bombing and strafing attacks and shot down one Japanese aircraft. The question arises: how was Lindbergh, a private citizen, able to strap himself into the cockpit of a fighter aircraft and take part in combat missions?

Sue,
Thanks for posting that 1932 Hopewell Phone Directory. I recognized a ton of names from my Hopewell childhood in the 1950's. The names brought back some great memories of good old Hopewell. I remember that our first phone in Hopewell was a party line and the number was 6J.
This directory has names that have come up in the discussions on this board: Matthews Construction Company, St, Michael's Orphanage, Skillman's Institute, Hurley, Charles "Doc" Ashton, Charles Williamson and of course Lindbergh. I do remember a phone booth in Cutter's Drug Store on Broad Street back in the day.

You're welcome. Mark Falzini did a fantastic job putting this all together!
I'm glad you were able to recognize so many names, and have wonderful memories of Hopewell!
That's interesting that you remember the phone booth!
Although they are a rare sight now, I hope someday that phone booths make a come-back!
Stranger things have happened!

On the subject of Lindbergh and fighter planes: With the cooperation of Henry Ford, the US government build a fighter plane factory in Willow Run between Ypsilanti, Michigan and Detroit, Michigan. The assembly line produced B-24s, maximum number about fifty planes a day. The planes were built on an assembly line using local residents for the most part, including many women (since the men were recruited for the military). Charles Lindbergh was hired as a consultant for the "bomber plant," as it was called in that area. He served for some time between 1942-1944 when the factory was busy. Ford was also a consultant, giving advice on the assembly line set-up. Lindbergh lived in Grosse Point during that time. He was consultant on the specifics of the airplane, so he would know how to fly and maneuver a B-24. He was skillful in the use of arms, according to his reputation. How he received training for combat is another question, or whether he needed any instruction. I lived near Ypsilanti at that time. My father worked the afternoon shift at the plant from 1942-1944, and Lindbergh's involvement with the plant was well known to the employees. When the war was over, I (as a kid, mind you) toured the plant but do not recall much of the detail. The plant was sold and became an auto factory after the war.
