ILoveDFW:
I thought it was Anne who used the phrase "New Jersey business."
I'll have to look for the reference.
Maybe Charles and Anne both referred to the kidnapping that way, reflecting years later?
I wonder if sometimes there are people who have suffered a tragedy, and need some relief from the intense sadness? Maybe some people need to joke to lighten up about some aspects of the tragedy?
Everyone handles grief differently.

"It" is a pronoun, and replaces a word that has already been mentioned.
Also, many times the word "it" can be substituted with a more effective word to express a thought or an idea.
Many people use the word "it" when a more effective, meaningful word can be used.

Hi Wayne,
I got Lindbergh's book called We as a gift last Christmas.
I'll have to see if he said anything about the word "it"!
Thanks!

I'm behind on this, but did anyone mention Lauren Deak Lyman? I have the interview, searched for it last night, but couldn't find it. It's mentioned in books, magazines, and newspaper articles as well. I have in front of me a small article on it written in The Literary Digest (1/4/36), but it doesn't really do it justice. It's definitely mentioned in Berg's book though.

It looks like Lyman's article/interview was published in the New York Times on January 7, 1935 in an article titled: "Col. L Wants Trial to be Scrupulously Fair" (pp. 1,7). If anyone here has subscription to Newspapers.com, would you please post the article here? Thanks!
