A good thought Kevin, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are bits and pieces of a few more design origins within the kidnap ladder, including some thought back to the attic ladder of Hauptmann's home. The fact that nobody seemed to come forward with a slam dunk answer to the question posed by police as to its identity suggests a specifically individualized amalgam of ideas here.

Yeah Joe, I fear that it may be an eternal puzzle, as Michael brought up regarding the signature. It makes it all the more frustrating to know the origins may be in plain sight. Still I am bothered by the need for such a lightweight ladder. I would have opted for a few more rungs, especially for a night climb.
