To all: Would anyone happen to know any basic biographical data on both Peter Birratella and Mary Cerrita? How old were they at the time of the infamous seance? Where were they living at the time? Were they immigrants from Italy, and, if so, when did they come over to the US. Couldn't find them in the 1930 US Census, but you have to be aware that it wasn't unusual for people not to participate in the census then, especially people in shady lines of work like these two. Hi Hurtelable, I could not locate them in the 1930 US Census either. Peter and Mary can be found in the 1940 US Census. In 1932 Peter would have been 48 and Mary 39. In 1932 Peter would have lived where the Temple of Divine Power was located. This would be at 164 E. 127th Street NY. Mary was living at 335 Willis Ave. Bronx NY. Peter and Mary would marry on June 9, 1932. Peter's name on the marriage certificate is Pietro Birrittella. Mary's name on the marriage certificate is Marietta Cannestracci. They were both born in Italy. The Temple of Divine Power would relocate by 1935 to 324 East 114th Street, NY. This is where they also live in 1940. Of interest is that Mary is listed as a naturalized citizen. Peter's info does not show him as being a naturalized citizen. If you have access to all the US Census records look for them in 1940. Peter's last name is spelled Birrittella. Use that when you do your search. I used to have an extensive amount of information on Peter Birritella and Mary Cerrita in my notes from census records etc and I will look for it. I remember it was difficult to track them down due to their names being mispelled Cerrito rather than Cerita etc. But off the top of my head they had connections or ties to the Yonkers area. I saw my books of notes a couple of months ago (I had several) and I will look through them this week. I always thought these two needed to be looked at far more closely also.

I believe you are correct. Peter had a brother who lived in Yonkers. I think he had been a taxi driver at some point. I would love if you could share some of your research on the Peter/Mary angle in this case. I have been doing research on it also and have a high interest level in this area of the case!

I will look for it today. I saw my notebooks recently and I’m fairlly sure they were in this set of notebooks I saw. So I’m hoping they are in there. I think my printer was broken at the time so I ended up writing it all down. I think their descendants had a bakery in Yonkers too. But I tended to keep my best notes on who always seemed to be the peripheral players in the LKC too. lol

Amy35 and Hurtelable, I found my notes on Peter Bitritells and Mary Cerrita. I think I may have more elsewhere though so I will keep looking. Mary Cerrrito (I hope this is the same one but I did not indicate it was only a possibility as I usually would have done. Also I remember I saw her surname switched often from A to O). Listed on the Brooklyn King Census as being 28 years old. Parents place of birth both listed as Italy. Occupation is listed as clerk in office. (again I am not positive this is the Mary we are looking for). But right under that I noted this: Other Mary Cerrito’s address is listed 324 E 114th Street. So I must have found two Mary Cerrito’s in the 1920 census I would take that to mean.

Also on the marriage certificate for Mary Cerrita and Peter Birritella, Mary’s maiden name I have listed as Cannestracci. Also one thing I know from when I used to do a lot of genealogy in old census records is that often names would be misspelled. I also believe I might have found some evidence that Mary had at one time gone under “Marietta Cannestracci”. As I have that next to it in parentheses.

It is where they relocated their lives to along with the Temple of Divine Power.

But into notes first thing this morning. It’s only 6:12 am here & I haven’t even made my coffee yet but I just HAD to see what else I have Lol and on the next page of my notes I see that now. I don’t say so but I presume I was trying to make the connections between any of these people by going as far back into their lives as I could via addresses etc. I also noted there a family of Cerritd’s in the 1930 New Haven Ct census. And I appear to have a lot of genealogy notes on Ellerson too. And some of the Faulkner’s on Balcom Road. And it appears I wrote down the entire building of tenants for the Plymouth Apts from from the 1920 census. 🙄 Btw my TBI (that I’ve been diagnosed with) was induced by a I was put on by my doctor for migraines off label in 1999. By the time we realized the side effects were killing me 3 years ago I was exactly like a mid to late stage Alzheimer’s patient. So I have what’s actually referred to as a chemical TBI. And the assault was done on my brain for 16 years. So my brain is still recovering. Or as I explain to people-some days I’m brilliant. And other days I can’t count change. lol But now I’m trying to figure out WHY I wrote down the entire Plymouth Apt complex for 1920.

It is packed with so much new material for researchers to absorb. Volume I is every bit a "can't put down" read as his second volume. You will learn so much from these volumes that is not available in any other book. I work the same as you do. I take names and work them as far back as I can. You can find very interesting and sometimes useful and important information doing that. I can understand completely noting all the Plymouth Apt. residents in 1920. That is where you find Jane Faulkner living with her mother. On one of my trips to the NJSP archives, I thought I would spend a whole day going through the Faulkner investigation. OMG!! The investigation surrounding the Faulkner deposit slip is HUGE. I quickly realized this is an area I will need to jump into eventually when I can focus many trips just on this one subject. Michael will be touching on it in Volume III. I am so looking forward to that! I have never heard of a chemical TBI before. I did not realize that a could do something like that to your brain. I am aware that medicines have side effects but what happened to you is unbelievable. Thank God you finally figured out what was going on. I do hope that you have a full recovery without any permanent damage.
