Hi, Michael. I spoke this morning to Mark Falzini—a real gentleman and very helpful. He confirmed that exhibit S-290 is not available in the archives (although he mentioned that exhibits occasionally keep turning up, turned in by families associated with the trial).
Before I give up on S-290, a couple of questions.
Michael, based on the above, it sounds like it is conceivable you might have an unlabeled copy of the photo, however unlikely. By any chance do you have unlabeled photos of women who Wilentz might have tried to pass as Violet Sharp? Or is there just too much material for you to wade through for such a limited purpose?
Also, according to Ronelle’s website www.lindberghkidnappinghoax.com/sharpe.html the “weird” photo of Violet Sharp appeared in the first edition of Whipple’s The Lindbergh Kidnapping Case. It may be that book attributes its photographs to their sources. It might also be that the caption for the photo in that book paralleled something Wilentz said, such as “the last photo taken of Violet Sharp.” I could search for a first edition of Whipple’s book, but before I do, I wanted to ask if you have one, Michael.
S-290 is a pivotal photo. If it looks like Violet, it casts some doubt on Bonesteel. But if it is a truly weird photo, it means Wilentz was probably pulling a fast one. It might even be that S-290 disappeared from the files for that very reason.
If S-290 cannot be traced, this thread meets a dead end, at least for the moment.

Here's the problem. I may have that photo, but it obviously wasn't in the Evidence Boxes so if I do - then its not labeled - so I wouldn't know that it was.
