I have not been able to find out much about this witness. I know she worked for St Michaels Orphanage & I thought it odd she was caslled in the first place since Reilly hads not looked at this angle of it.

Ps I will just admit it upfront. No matter how often and eloquent and indeed even logical the argument is that the baby in the woods was Charlie, I cannot wrap my miond around it. I guess I just so want a different ending to the entire Lindbergh saga. I grew up hearing from my parents how that Baby in the woods was not Charlie, and nothing will dislodge it.
I thought I would just get that out in the open ! LOL

"Elmira" Dormer was Elmire Dormer, my grandmother. Elmira is a mispelling, probably based upon someone mispronouncing her name, and then spelling it that way.
She worked in the office at St. Michael's for 15 years, 1927 to 1942.
My mother told me that her mother testified at the trial because nuns were not allowed to testify in court.
I have been told that Hauptmann, while seated at the trial, stuck his legs out when it was time for her to testify. Her children wonder if Hauptmann intended to cause her to lose her balance and fall? (She did not fall, by the way). I was thinking recently, it's scary don't you think, for a witness to have to walk so closely past a defendant in a murder case?
Hauptmann's defense lawyer claimed that the body found was from the orphanage, which was located very close by.
There is a US Census for 1930 which lists her name, along with the names of other employees, names of the nuns, and names of all the children who lived there.
There were also admittance cards for the children, now in the possession of Catholic Charities.
Robert.

This is really interesting, Robert! Thank you for telling me about this. St Michaels in particular has always fascinated me for some reason I cant explain. Perhaps because in photos the buildings look so gothic & mysterious. I have some newspaper articles on your grandma. If you are interested in them I can either post them or email them to you. Very interesting about Hauptman too. Did she think it was on purpose or he just was unaware of what he was doing?

Hello Dena, Could you e-mail the newspaper articles regarding my grandmother to me? My e-mail is rchatten@plantfoodco.com
In reply to your question, I do not know if it was intentional or not, and since my grandmother is deceased, that is all we know.
Thank you. Robert.
