Happy 90th anniversary to the Spirit of St Louis!
Ninety years ago today, this amazing bit of technology (designed and assembled in only sixty days by Ryan Airlines) made history. With power from a reliable Wright J-5C "Whirlwind" radial engine, this experimental design provided the necessary combination of mechanical endurance and airworthiness to finally achieve a non-stop flight across the Atlantic.

Yes, it's an anniversary worth celebrating. I don't anticipate much if any discussion of it on the mainstream news media today. Yes, the Spirit of St. Louis was assembled by Ryan. But, as I understand it, CAL Sr. himself supervised on the design. He deserves credit for his aeronautic engineering skills as well as his skills as a pilot.

BTW, what supposedly is the exact location where Lindbergh took off on his famous flight, is now, due to the "wonders" of today's suburban sprawl, indoors. It is marked by a plaque in the Roosevelt Field Shopping Mall in Westbury, LI, NY.
